Sands of the Sahel by Mendos James - Paperback

Sands of the Sahel blends 16th century history and fiction to tell an intriguing tale of the Borno Empire during the Sayfawa dynasty of the Mais, at a time when its economic and political dominance in Central Sudan was threatened by the rise of the Kwararafa nation from the Gongola Valley.

Amidst an assassination attempt on the Mai and increasing threats from the Kwararafa nation, the Queen Mother tries to protect her son, while Kwararafa forms an alliance to break Borno’s hegemony. Princess Laila struggles between her desire to love Abba and respect Borno’s cultural prejudices.

Will the Empire survive the onslaught?
