The past and future of Nigeria comes to a head in We Won’t Fade into Darkness. The common thread in these stories, indeed the only reason why every Nigerian pulls out of sleep to face the countenance of life every morning is hope.

In a world where males are going extinct and female monarchs resort to drastic measures to ensure the survival of the Nigerian race, an abusive father must leave the safety of his home to find his runaway son. Meanwhile, an Ogbanje travels from the past to a nearly post-apocalyptic Nigeria, bringing a solution that she herself does not fully understand.

In a Nigeria where the British never left, a white boy living in Lagos takes a banned book from one of his father's Nigerian household serfs, and their friendship leads to disastrous consequences in the story "Passion Fruit."

In "We Won’t Fade into Darkness," the past and future collide as the indiscriminate exploitation of oil results in the creation of Nigerium, a gaseous element that poisons the air, destroys reproductive organs, and drives people to madness.

The common thread that runs through these stories, apart from their shared setting, is the lifeblood of every indigene: hope.
